Slow Living: A Residential Apartment Designed by Chi Wei Lin

Blending Nature and Zen Principles for a Calm and Serene Home

Inspired by the beauty of natural elements and the Japanese Zen style, Chi Wei Lin has created a residential apartment that embodies the concept of slow living. With a focus on integrating the local environment and creating a serene atmosphere, this design offers a unique and refreshing living experience.

The design of this residential apartment, aptly named Slow Living, aims to bring the qualities of nature into the home while blending seamlessly with the surrounding environment. Chi Wei Lin explains, "Material homes of quality of nature do not merely bring natural elements into homes, but blend the local environment characteristics of nature so to carry out creation inventively."

The interior design of Slow Living follows the principles of Japanese Zen style, which emphasizes simplicity, naturalness, and a slow-paced lifestyle. The goal is to create a space where people can sit spontaneously and feel the warm embrace of natural elements.

One of the unique aspects of this design is the integration of the original layout of the apartment. Despite the constraints of maintaining the existing air conditioning pipes and floorings, the interior design manages to create a feeling of precise conformity. The ceiling renovations and rearrangement of areas were carefully planned to ensure a harmonious flow throughout the space.

Construction materials play a crucial role in realizing the design vision of Slow Living. The use of thick slates on a partial wall transforms it into a dignified TV wall, expanding the sense of sight in the house. Sunlight filtering through wood grilles and plants adorning the windows further enhances the natural ambiance. The walls, decorated with natural paints and rice straws, create a calm and serene atmosphere in the living room and tea room.

Slow Living is a spacious apartment, spanning 524 square meters. It offers ample room for relaxation, contemplation, and enjoying the quality of life. The designer, Chi Wei Lin, has successfully incorporated natural elements into the cool textures of the construction materials, enveloping the home with a warm and soothing vibe.

The Slow Living project was completed in January 2017 in Taichung City, Taiwan. Beyond the ideas of interior design, Chi Wei Lin's intention was to create a space where the homeowner could find solace from the stresses of daily life and truly appreciate the quality of life. The design has been recognized for its excellence and innovation, receiving the Iron A' Design Award in 2020.

Slow Living is a testament to the power of design in creating a harmonious and tranquil living environment. By embracing the principles of slow living and integrating natural elements, Chi Wei Lin has crafted a residential apartment that offers a unique and refreshing lifestyle experience.
